The Unarchiver with El Capitan

Today was the first time I’ve encountered RAR files since moving to the Mac, and The Unarchiver handled them flawlessly. To open a RAR file you just right-click on the file and choose “Open With…” Simple! Selecting The Unarchiver as the default app to handle RAR files is also simple, though it is apparently a different, easy procedure than it was in previous versions of the app. Everything is briefly explained when you launch the app.
