A Perfect Mac App

The Unarchiver is a true example of a perfectly-designed Mac application. Its incredibly simple and easy to use, with the same level of quality and polish as an Apple-made app*, its remarkably flexible when it comes to the filetypes it supports, and if being free doesnt top it all off beautifully, it even has some beautiful icons that help make the app feel right at home on Mac OS X. Overall, even if you dont find yourself extracting uncommon archive formats frequently, just having the Unarchiver around when the need arises is incredibly helpful, and makes the process absolutely painless. *and in fact, The Unarchiver works in the same way Apples standard unzipping app does by default, simply decompressing an archive and leaving behind only its contents.

.exe?

In the disription it says it can open .EXE files but when i use it it doesnt open…fix please?

saved the day...

I had a .zip archive that would not decompress. It was 600MB plus archive (compress using finder) and I kept getting a "unable to expand (error-1 . Operation not permitted)" message using the default Mountain Lion archive utility. Tried the suggested Stuffit and Ziped apps and they too fail to decompress. Then I read on the Mac support forums to try The Unarchiver…and Voila!!! it opened. It did however, create another .zip file (same name) within the designation folder and it was this .zip that was able to decompress. Super impressed with this handy little app. It saved my day!!!

EXE files dont work

It doesnt open my EXE files :"( otherwise, its great!!

.exe

Guys, The description says it can open SOME .exe files, not all, so stop complaining about this really awesome app.

BAD SOFTWARE

lying to people!!

The only archive utility you need.

If all you need to do is unpack the various archives you might download over a day, this is your one-stop-shop. It works, and always has for all the years I’ve been using it. Thanks for supporting App Store so updates are automatic and painless!

Corrupts some file

I deleted this app after trying it. It corrupted some files when extracting it. When using unrarX, the file worked fine.

Amazing !

Wow. I was searching for hours to find something that could open my .bin file. I tried Daemon Tools Lites which worked but expired in 20 days, toast (which was such a mess to deal with) and just pulling my hair to find something. I found this, it opened the bin file in a second, no problems, AND can open all the zip files, rar files, and other ones I don’t even know. Absoutely recommend this app.

Best File Opener EVER!!!!

it’s much better than the Archive Utility or Unrarx i haghly reccomend it

best one out there

worked on the files the other unzippers returned “crop” or “not permitted"

Great app

This does everything I need to do, it can open Zip files and Rar files and functions as advertised

Compatibility

In this 20 october 2014 …. this app is not compatible with OSX Yosemite (10.10) …

Yosemite support

This utility…by far one of the best before, has stopped working as intended with Yosemite. You cannot change the settings if you are starting with a fresh Yosemite install (as opposed to an upgrade). Unfortunate as this was one of the most simple, yet fully functional tools available on the App Store. Hopefully, an update is in the works.

not yosemite ready :(

in this oct 27th, this app is not ready :(

I cannot select all formats.

I cannot change the formats that the Unarchiver can open in yosemite… I need it to open a .bin, but I cannot select that in the options, I cannot change anything. Must be a Yosemite bug.

Yosemite fail;

As indicated in other reviews, The Unarchiver does not function as intended under Yosemite suffering from in particular issues with file association settings. Keka does much the same thing and is an easy-to-recommend alternative.

Preferences Panel Not working

When I open the preference window of The Unarchiver, I couldnt check unchecked checkboxes and uncheck checked boxes. In other words, I cant change settings. Besides that it comes with “Zip,7-zip,Rar and others” extensions selected which are commonly used. in my case I wanted to use with Bzip2 which I cannot select. :-/ ( Yosemite 10.10.2. The Unarchiver 3.9.1)

Boring boring borin

Its great for the price but GUI needs updating. Paid for browser addon to help dev team think of something Apple OSX style or above Still looking for a good allaround Archive program.

Won’t unrar lti file archives

I have this really annoying bug where when I double click the .rar file that comes split into multiple files it almost ALWAYS opens the preferences pane instead of opening and extracting the archive file. This is majorly frustrating as it basically makes this app useless. I’m on newest version of Yosemite. I would pay for a premium version of this app with the ability to add a list of mult-file archives and click one button to extract all of them. Similar to ExtractNow for Windows.
